ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Doorsteps Homebuyer Class can help clear up the confusion that first time buyers typically feel when starting to look for a home.  During each month’s classes, we will typically offer advice for first time buyers on a wide range of topics, from managing credit scores and setting a budget to understanding what you’re signing at closing.

Below you will find various people/options/companies in the Fargo-Moorhead area that you may interact with during the home buying process. Each month we try and have presenters from each of these areas on-hand to answer any questions that you might have.

CLOSING COMPANY

When closing day comes, people are often overwhelmed with the paperwork. The closing company will take you through what to expect on closing day so you understand what you’re signing.

CREDIT COUNSELOR

No one wants to be house poor. The credit counselor will go in-depth on how credit affects you, how to change it, and budgeting. The first step is figuring out how much you want to afford.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Using too much electricity can be hard on the environment and your pocketbook. Learn how to save energy and money from an energy efficiency professional so you won’t be shocked by a giant electric bill (and help make the world a cleaner place, too)!

FAIR HOUSING

Housing discrimination can take many forms, from refusing to rent to a certain group of people to setting different prices for different groups. It is important to know that this kind of discrimination is illegal and that people who are discriminated against have the right to take legal action.

HOME INSPECTOR

Home inspectors do more than just look at a house to make sure it’s in good working order — they can help you identify issues you may need to budget for in the future and teach you how to care for your home. Choosing a qualified and experience home inspector is vital to ensuring your home will suit your needs.

INSURANCE AGENT

There are lots of insurance options for you and this topic often gets overlooked. Insuring the biggest purchase of your life requires careful thought and consideration. What does your insurance cover? What doesn’t it cover? What is the right kind of coverage for you?

LENDER

The amount of loan options can leave your head spinning. FHA, USDA, Conventional, VA, and more! The lender will give a brief overview of each option, explain what to look for when choosing a lender, and how to get you qualified for the best loan for your needs.

NEW CONSTRUCTION

Even if you aren’t currently looking for new construction, it’s never a bad idea to learn about it. New construction has a lot of pros and cons; knowing them can be crucial to making your future building decision.

REALTOR®

Real Estate Agents can help guide you through the process of home buying from start to close. The Realtor® will explain how to choose the right agent for you, the latest market trends, and updates. Being properly represented is the key to being happy with the largest purchase of your life.
